A postgraduate qualified information professional, Simon is particularly interested in the application of information science techniques in web technologies.  He uses these skills to design systems that meet best practice in Information Architecture and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).  He has designed numerous websites and web applications, including library, knowledge management, bulk email, legal casework, eCommerce and membership community systems.

He strongly believes in the importance of Project Management, and is a qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner. He has used these techniques to deliver many projects, from web applications to library systems; virtualisation of server infrastructure to network implementation across three countries.

Simon founded the Infobo project management and technology consultancy in 2010. Simon works direct with clients to develop solutions and also works closely with other businesses, leading projects and providing consultancy in areas like search engine optimisation (SEO), information architecture and systems development. Simon’s clients are diverse, including online retail, web development companies, cosmetic surgery practices, trade unions and the NHS.

Simon also writes for the industry press, and is the technology columnist for Labour Research magazine.

Simon has pioneered the use of website technology in the union movement. Whilst at the Engineers’ & Managers’ Association he created the first union website to allow members to view and change their details online, and designed the first Virtual Branch, which he evolved at Prospect into the award winning eBranch, a system that has now been adopted by other unions such as UNISON.

Simon’s expertise was further developed as Head of Information & Website Systems at Prospect, where he led a major modernisation drive for this 120,000 strong membership organisation. This four year project saw the development of a new website and intranet as a platform to deliver the new systems, and completely overhauled the way information was handled, including creating a new online library that replaced the previous paper dependent system and introducing an electronic legal casework system.

Simon graduated from Sheffield University’s Department of Information Studies, completing an MSc in Information Management and specialising in the internet. Before this, Simon was the graduate trainee librarian at Trinity College Dublin, where he found his passion for the traditional library disciplines of organising and managing information. Simon also has an Economics degree from the University of Leicester.

When Simon is not working, he like to spend time with his family, socialising, painting, playing computer strategy games and writing music. Simon is a singer songwriter performing under a pseudo name , and has toured extensively, including in the United States and Japan. He has also played sessions on various radio stations including the BBC and was a regular performer in the first series of Channel 4′s Transmission music program. Fatherhood and Infobo have curtailed the time he can now spend playing music!
